it’s the little things

It’s been 62 days and I’m still taken aback at times by how my kids are amazed and engrossed with the littlest things.

Today all it took was peanut butter, pine cones, and bird seed.

Their naive outlook on life is refreshing. It’s a fun exercise to take a look back and look through life through their eyes. My 1st graders are little adults. They’ve experienced so much more in their short life than I have in 22 years. They have an odd maturity about them, wise beyond their years but lacking emotional and cognitive maturity like their suburban counterparts. They sit during morning meeting discussing topics like older siblings getting jumped at the park with such matter-of-factness and normalcy, but breakdown in tears when they catch someone looking at them.

In other news, we went to the brand new Please Touch Museum yesterday as a field trip. Absolutely FANTASTIC. FANTASTIC.
